Amazon’s Kindle endorsed by Oprah
October 25th, 2008
With the sagging economy making consumers shy away from gadgets, this could well be a blessing for Amazon.com. Popular talk-show host Oprah Winfrey on Friday endorsed Amazon.com’s Kindle, a blessing that will likely give the e-book reader a big boost against its major rival the Sony Reader.
Oprah has revealed that the Amazon Kindle is her favorite new gadget. Earlier speculation that the celebrity would give the nod to the device was sparked by a 24-second video ad on the Amazon home page. The ad said Winfrey would discuss on her show a gadget that was “life-changing for me” and “the wave of the future.” The ad ran directly above a promotion for the Kindle.
On her show, Winfrey, who was joined by Amazon founder and chief executive Jeff Bezos, said that although the Kindle was pricy at $359, she looked at as an environmentally friendly investment. “I know it’s expensive in these times, but it’s not frivolous because it will pay for itself,” she said, according to her Web site. “The books are much cheaper, and you’re saving paper.” All books are $9.99 or less on Amazon.
It would be interesting to see how Oprah’s endorsement of the Amazon Kindle will affect its sales.
Jennifer Hudson’s Mom and Brother are dead - Brutally Shot!
October 25th, 2008American Idol fame singer Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother have been found dead Friday at a South Side home, and police were seeking a missing child who is the nephew of the singer and Oscar-winning actress. “We can confirm that there is an ongoing investigation concerning the deaths of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, and her brother, Jason Hudson,” Hudson’s personal publicist, Lisa Kasteler, said in a statement. “No further comment will be made and the family has asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.”
The deaths are speculated to be results of domestic abuse. Deputy Chief Joseph Patterson said a family member entered the home around 3 p.m. Friday, found a woman shot on the living room floor and left to notify authorities. Responding officers found a man shot in the bedroom, Patterson said. There was no sign of forced entry.
The tragedy comes as Hudson, who grew up in Chicago, continues to reach new heights in her career. Her song Spotlight is No 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts and her recently released self-titled debut album has been a top seller.

Step 1: First find for the line

Display Adsense Ads only in post pages
September 13th, 2008Many of us have implemented the “Read More” hack to display a selective post summary on the mainpage of the blog. What if we want to display adsense ads only in the post page? It is well knows that this technique will bring about a higher CTR (click through rate) as long as the ads are targeted to your audience. Here is how you do it.
I assume that you have implemented the “Read More” hack.
Step 1: Find for the code
<b:if cond=’data:blog.pageType == "item"’>
Step 2: Convert your adsense codes using a HTML parser. You can find it here.
Step 3: Once you have converted your codes using the HTML parser, you can add it right below the line of code shown on Step 1.
That’s all! Simple right? Now your Ads will only display within post pages and right in your posts.
SEO tip: Optimize your title in blogger
September 13th, 2008Today I will share a tip for customizing your blogger template for better SEO. If you are using a Blogger template, you might notice that when you load a page or post the web browser displays the Blog Name followed by the Post Title. For example, Bloggers ‘N Dollar: SEO tip: Optimize your title in blogger. There’s nothing wrong with this, but it would be better to optimize the header so that the browser will only display the post title like how it appears for my blog. In my case you will only see SEO tip: Optimize your title in blogger.
I will share with you how to go about this. It is a simple hack which you can implement in a few minutes.
Step 1: Firstly you need to go to Edit HTML on your layout page.
Step 2: Look for this piece of code
<title> <data:blog.pageTitle/> </ title>
Step 3: Replace the above code with
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "item"'> <title> <data:blog.pageName/> | <data:blog.title/> </title> <b:else/> <title> <data:blog.pageTitle/> </title> </b:if>
What you have done here will change the title according to the post that is being displayed. Google will consider the post title as the title of your blog and you will have a better chance of being displayed higher during a search - SEO. So go ahead and try this!
Search Engine Optimization - increase traffic to your blog
September 3rd, 2008I’m sure you know that the key to increase revenue on your blog is to “increase traffic to your blog“. But with billions, maybe trillions of blogs in the blogosphere how to gain the attention from visitors to visit your blog? Well there is the hard way and the easy way. I’m not going to talk about the hard way because I’m sure you’re here because you’ve already tried it and would like to gain some traction - faster. My advice to you is, learn from the best and forget the rest.
One such blogger who is making news in the blogosphere is Alvin Phang. He has written a nice book on how he achieved his success and I just purchased it. So I thought I would share my insights with you. I did think that this book is a good value for money as it offers many different ideas that you could easily implement to increase traffic. The language might not be perfect but the flow of information is very easy to understand. It does stand apart from other books that I have read and implemented for my other technology blog.
There are 10 chapters in total and these are what the chapters are about:
Chapter 1: Some overview on the do’s and don’ts for bloggers. Great info if you’re just starting out.
Chapter 2: Getting started with blogging and he talks about the power of atomic blogging.

Chapter 4: Setting up domain names and choosing the right domain name.
Chapter 5: Offers some secret “Search Engine Optimization” (SEO) tips to optimize your blog.

Chapter 10: Advanced traffic tips.
This package also comes with some bonus material including one from Yaro Starak (who by the way is one of the superstar bloggers in the blogosphere). If you are new to blogging, this is definitely a good investment. If you have some experience, you will still benefit from the ideas offered in this book to increase your traffic. Overall, this is value for money. If you need more information, you can click here.
Improve your page ranking
August 27th, 2008It is every blogger’s dream (and mine too) to get a high page ranking with Google. Getting a high page ranking with Google will increase your site’s visibility to search engines which will ultimately drive traffic to your site. If your page ranking is high enough, you might even feature in the first page of Google search results. Sounds good right? But how to increase your page ranking? Well, there is no easy or short way here. Its hard work and I’m not going to talk about link farms. But, there are some tips that I will provide that you can use which would invariably help to increase your page ranking steadily.
Links to your from any page ranking site is good, and more the links better are your chances to get a higher page ranking. Here are some simple ways you can follow:
1. Use yahoo answers. Yes, this is true. Instead of asking a question on yahoo answers, why don’t you search for a question that is relevant to your blog post? Find for a question which has been unresolved, answer the question with a link back to your blog post. But don’t spam. You will never get repeat visitors if you spam. If you solve someone’s question, they might just link back to your post and your page ranking will increase.
2. Use Digg. Choose some of your good posts and post it on digg. Interact with some digg users and befriend them. You can link back your blog on your profile page. This counts towards your page ranking as well.
3. Commenting on other people’s blog is also very helpful in increasing your page ranking. This does not need further explanation. But one word of caution again - avoid spamming.
4. Join webmaster forums. This could be a good way to increase links back to your site as well.
I hope that you will be able to use some of these methods to increase your backlinks and subsequently the page ranking of your site. Good Luck!
